Chinese Apps Alternatives: Better and Secure + Remove China App

Recently, people have been removing China Apps from their phones. Being from China is not the only concern but the bigger concern is that most of these apps have privacy and security issues. Today I am going to tell some really great alternatives to all these China Apps.

In the end, I will tell you how to install 'Remove China Apps' on your Android Phone. It was removed from Play Store a few days back. Google said that they removed it because there is a policy that 'No app on Google Play can promote uninstalling any other app'.

I would like to say another thing before we start. I won't say that the alternatives are totally secure but honestly, nothing is secure in 2020. You have to be very careful with the content you add and the permissions you allow. And the developers are working really hard to keep our information safe.

1. CamScanner

CamScanner is a very popular document scanning app which even I have used. No doubt that it is a really nice app. The best thing is that you can easily make a PDF Document of all scans. Apart from being Chinese, this has security issues. Kaspersky Labs discovered that it installed Trojan-Dropper in the app. It was even removed from Play Store because of that.

There are many apps with similar functionality but I picked five apps for you. First is the Adobe Scan which I am now using. It is a very similar app and you basically all the features of CamScanner. You can easily edit your documents and then save them as a PDF File. It uses you Adobe Document Cloud which has 2GB free storage and it is enough for documents.

Microsoft Lens is also a really nice Document Scanner App and you get all the basic functionalities with it and you can save the file as PDF too. It uses your One Drive storage to save your files. It is even available in Microsoft Office. It uses the OneDrive to store your documents which provides 5GB free storage.

You can even use Google Drive App for document scanning if you don't want any extra app. But I suggest you using the PhotoScan by Google Photos. Both have basic features but the only downside of this app is that the scanning process is lengthy and you cannot save your scans as a PDF file. Both use your Google Drive as a cloud which gives 15GB free storage.

2. UC Browser

UC Browser is a very popular browser by Alibaba. But I have always avoided using it. It's mainly because of the inappropriate content and fake news on the news feed. It has always carried security allegations with it and it is highly recommended not to use it.

If you want a no-nonsense browser, you can use Google Chrome. Even Mozilla Firefox is a great browser. If you want a browser targetted at security, you can download the Brave Browser or the DuckDuckGo Browser. Samsung Internet and Microsoft Edge are some really nice browsers too. You can even try out Jio Browser if you want something light on your phone.

3. TikTok

Now I don't have to say much about TikTok, a social media platform owned by ByteDance. The app is full of garbage and also has a lot of security concerns.

IGTV is a really good app with personalized content. You just have to sign-in using your Instagram account and you are good to go. The quality of content is much better on this. Mitron App returned on Play Store and it updated the privacy policy and the source code. So we should give Mitron a second chance.  There are some vet similar apps like Triller and Firework that are not very popular.

4. Helo

Helo is a very popular social media app by the makers of TikTok. It is Chinese and the content quality is just as bad as TikTok. I will tell some alternatives of Helo. ShareChat is a very popular alternative based on the same concept. It has 60 million active users. You can also use something like Facebook or Instagram as an alternative.

5. SHAREit & Xender

SHAREit and Xender are very popular apps for file transfer in India. They have allegations of passing device authentications and so they should be replaced with better apps.

There are many apps but I picked the best two for my readers. They are Google Files and JioSwitch. These are really nice file transfer apps. In my research, I found both these apps to be way faster than Xender and SHAREit.

6. WPS Office

WPS Office is a very popular All-in-one Office App. Sadly, this is also a Chinese App. It also has some issues like App Crashes and Poor Data Syncing.

The best alternative I found is Microsoft Office. It obviously provides Word, PowerPoint and Excel. But it also gets extra features like a PDF Converter. There is also a Document Scanner, Sticky Notes and even a QR Code Scanner. You can also download the Individual MS Office Apps - Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote

You can also download the Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Spreadsheets and Google Keep Notes. Google Office Suite is quite nice. It has all the features from MS Office and is much smaller in size.

7. App Lock (by DoMobile Lab)

App Lock by DoMobile Lab is very popular among people for locking their apps. I didn't find any security threats with this in my research but I will tell a great alternative for this app.

I suggest using the Default App Lock Feature on their phones. It is present in Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, Vivo, e.t.c. But many phones lack this feature. So you can use the Norton App Lock. It has all the features you would require for locking apps. There are many other apps but I suggest locking apps using some good service.

8. Clean Master, DU Speed Booster

There are many speed boosters and cleaner apps on the Play Store. These apps have very poor security and are full of ads. So I will suggest some good app cleaning software today.

Norton Security and Norton Cleaner are really great apps for storage cleaning. Norton is a trustworthy service and many people use it. You can use AVG Security and AVG Cleaner. It is also good and secure. Avast Security and Avast Cleaner are also great apps. If you want to use any service, I suggest downloading the cleaner and security apps together.

9. Club Factory, Shien, Ali Express

I don't really find any need to use Chinese E-Commerce sites like Club Factory, Shien and Ali Express. The majority of people don't even use them.

Amazon and Flipkart are very popular in India. Both have better service than the other and there are frequent sales. You can apply for an exchange on electronics and EMI is also available. Myntra and AJIO are e-commerce sites targetted at fashion. Paytm Mall and Tata CLiQ are also some other E-Commerce sites in India.

10. Filmora, Viva Video and VideoShow

Viva Video and Video Show are very popular video editing apps. Many people use it but do you know that there are better video editors out there. Professional editors use Filmora which is a great service but it is Chinese.

Adobe Premiere Pro is the best editing app for professionals. KineMaster is a professional editing software for mobile. It is feature-rich and offers multi-track editing. PowerDirector is also a great editor for Mobile and PC. It offers great features and multi-track editing. You can even use InShot which is very simple to use and has most of the necessary features.

11. Turbo VPN

Turbo VPN is very popular as it is free. But this app has a lot of security concerns. And I don't think that we should compromise with security when it comes to VPN.

You can use the Proton VPN as an alternative. It is based in Switzerland and so you can trust it. It has no data limit and the selection of servers is good as well. It performs quite well for a free VPN.

12. WeChat

I don't really find the reason of using We Chat. Not a lot of people use it. But the bigger concern is that the Chinese Government strictly monitors the messages as its servers are Chinese. This is a great security threat.

I suggest using WhatsApp instead. I won't say that it is the most secure app but it is fine for a normal user. Most people around us use it and so you won't have trouble finding your friends there. It has a lot of features like Location Sharing and Dark Mode. It can also be used on a laptop using the WhatsApp Web. You can make a business account too using WhatsApp Business which can also be used on a laptop.

Zoom is not a Chinese App

Video Conference Apps

Zoom is an American video-calling service founded by Eric Yuan. It gained popularity after the Corona Outbreak when people started working from home. Zoom was banned for Government Meetings in India because it had security threats, not because it was Chinese. Zoom later fixed the security issues. Eric Yuan clearly said that Zoom is American, not Chinese.

If your institution is using Zoom, you can safely use it. But if you want to use something else, Google Meet and Skype are very popular. Say Namaste is a new video calling app which is Indian. It has room for a lot of improvements but we should support Say Namaste.

How to download 'Remove China Apps'?

Remove China Apps

As promised, I am going to share the link for downloading 'Remove China Apps' with you all. You have to download the APK from the links below. When you try to install it, it might ask you to 'Allow Installation from Unknown Sources'. You would get a pop-up with an option to go to settings. It will redirect you to the specific setting and enable the option there.

You can also find this option in the Security menu of Settings. You can find the option there. If you couldn't, it will be either under 'Special App Access' or 'More Settings'/'Advanced Settings'. If you still have any issues, you can ask me. You can also search on the internet for your model.

Download Link:- Google Drive    OneDrive

This is not the end of the list and I will soon make a Part 2. If you know any other Chinese App people use or any other alternatives, feel free to comment down below. So that's it for today. Also read Part 2 from here.

  3. For those asking if allowing 'Installation from Unknown Sources' safe. It's up to you.

I have always kept it enabled in all phones and never faced any security threat. It won't be a concern until the installed APK has a virus.

The APK I provided has been ported by me and it has no virus. You can download it from either Google Drive or OneDrive.
