Xiaomi Mi 10 |
Yesterday, Xiaomi launched their Mi 10
after a long wait and I was excited during the whole launch event. But when I
saw the price, all the excitement was gone. Today, I will tell why this phone
will be the biggest flop for Xiaomi. Stay tuned to know.
So let’s start with the basic specs. I am overall impressed with the basic
specs. You get a 6.67” FHD+ sAMOLED Display with a punch-hole on the left
corner. And one thing that I noticed is that it has very thin bezels. Though
it is not QHD, I can’t call it a bad display by any means. Though you might
think that it should have had a QHD resolution vut you would realize that it
won’t create any difference in daily life and it would even get you some
better battery life. It has a 90Hz Refresh Rate but I wish it had the 120 Hz
Refresh Rate from POCO X2. So I
am disappointed with the display.
When it comes to design, I am again disappointed. It has a Gorilla Glass 5
Back with a pretty design but which phone doesn’t have that in 2020. There
is no IP Rating on the phone. The phone’s design is overall good but is
nothing special. The phone has the Snapdragon 865 which is a great thing. It
is the best chipset on a mobile that can be given. And you can get it in 8GB
RAM with 128GB or 256GB storage. So I have no complaints when it comes to
the hardware. And it had MIUI 11 with Android 10. Here are the benchmark
scores of OnePlus 8 with Snapdragon 865 compared with iPhone SE.

Now seeing the camera setup, I am really happy. It has a 108MP (f/1.7) main
camera with OIS. It has a 13MP Wide-Angle Lens to accompany it along with a
2MP Macro lens and a 2MP Portrait Lens. Now I would have preferred a 48MP
Wide-Angle Lens and a Telephoto shooter but the main thing is that the
primary shooter which you would use the most is best in class. The front
camera is a 20MP shooter which would perform well. Now one thing no one is
talking about is that it has 8K video recording like the S20. Now if someone
says that 8K video is unnecessary, then QHD screens are also
unnecessary.
It has 5G support which is the future. This phone has the IR Blaster for Mi
Remote if you want that. And you get a speaker grille on both the top and
bottom. But there is no Headphone Jack which is nowadays extinct on
flagships. Now it has a 4780 mAh battery which is bigger than the OnePlus 8
phones. With the power-efficient chip, this phone would perform very well
when it comes to battery life. It has 30W fast wired charging along with 30W
wireless charging which is insane. It is present on the OnePlus 8 Pro too.
Even the S20 Series lacks that. It also has reverse wireless charging at
10W. I would link the Xiaomi Wireless Charger down below.
So this phone has nothing special. It comes at ₹49,999 for the 128GB
variant and ₹54,999 for the 256GB variant. You get a Coral Green Colour and a Twilight Grey Colour. I would have liked
if both the variants were ₹5k cheaper and it started at ₹44,999. But
question is if you would even like to spend that much on Xiaomi.

I don’t say that
Xiaomi is a bad brand. Today, you get its certified service centers in every
medium to big cities. You don’t get any problems in claiming warranties and
the service is good too. But the reason is MIUI. You are spending 50k on a
phone and you still get bloatware on this phone. And you get ads in MIUI and I
think that Xiaomi has now crossed the limits when it comes to ads.
Now the story started in 2018 when Xiaomi started giving ads. Before people say that you can disable them, I want to know why we need ads in our UI.
Xiaomi is not doing a favor by giving us cheap phones and it’s not like you
don’t have any competitors. In fact, many phones are even providing better
specs for the same price. So the reason that they have to provide cheap
phones is simply stupid.
In the starting, Xiaomi was limited to the promotion of different products
and apps. You could easily disable those and use your phone normally. But in
the last few months, Xiaomi has started giving too many ads and some that
you can't even disable. And if this was not enough, Xiaomi has even started
pushing inappropriate ads. This was the moment when Xiaomi crossed its
limits. Xiaomi claimed that they would reduce ads on MIUI 11 and even remove
all forms of inappropriate ads. But things got worse when MIUI 11 came to
India.
I seriously suggest Xiaomi to remove all forms of adware and junk from MIUI
12, especially the inappropriate ads. Xiaomi has been the No. 1 Smartphone
Company of India from Q3 of 2017 and even if they earn something extra from
ads, it is destroying MIUI's reputation day by day. And it is even nicknamed
as AD UI. It is not that MIUI is a bad Custom Skin. It is a pretty good and
stable skin keeping the ads aside and it has the ability to perform well
even on entry-level phones. It also gives you a lot of customizations and
now even has an App Drawer. Wthout the adware, MIUI provides a premium user
experience.
Now, if they come out and say that they won’t give ads on premium phones,
it won’t create any difference. Xiaomi has destroyed its own MIUI’s
reputation and they would have to remove all this junk from all their models
ranging from the entry-level Redmi A Series to their Mi series flagship
smartphones.
I hope that Xiaomi reduces the price after the situation gets better. I can
say that a 5k price cut and removal of all forms of junk in MIUI 12 can
really make Mi 10 a killer flagship but until then, I suggest you to go for
the OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro and you can even look towards the iPhone SE
if you want an iPhone.
