Boat Baseheads 100 Review: After 1 Month

So I have been using the Boat Baseheads 100 Wired Earphones from a month now. So I have spent enough time to review the earphones. I got these for ₹399 but the prices keep going down and I have seen this being sold for ₹369. So let's see if you should invest in these earphones or you should look into alternatives.

So before starting, I would like to tell that Boat is an Indian Company but the earphones are Made in China. But that was expected because most of the earphones in this price bracket are made Made in China.

I have been using these Earphones with my Redmi Go and my PC. I use them for everything. I watch videos on these, take calls, play games and attend my online classes. So let's start off with the design.

BASIC SPECS

Connectivity is through a standard 3.5mm plug. The Boat Bassheads 100 has 10mm dynamic drivers, a frequency response range of 20-20,000Hz, 16Ω of impedance, and a sensitivity rating of 92dB.

DESIGN & BUILD

When it comes to design, my opinions are a mixed bag. While I really like the fact that they look really cool with the Hawk-Inspired Design, I didn’t like how they fit in my ears. In the starting, I found the earbuds dropping from my ears. And the large earbuds were still too small. This is offered in Black, White, Furious Red and Taffy Pink Colour. I am using the black one.
Hawk Design

The wire isn’t braided and the earbuds are made of plastic but I couldn’t expect much at this price. The earphones also look weak. While it may not be true but taking a look at a wire, the fact that I might break the cable always haunts me. But don’t get me wrong, the earphones won’t break that easily.

When it comes to comfort level, I can say that I have watched movies using these earphones and I attend 3 hour long online classes using these. And trust me, the comfort level is really nice. Also, the earphones are very light-weight.

SOUND QUALITY

All earphones work very bad with my Redmi Go and that’s an issue with my phone. While using headphones on Redmi Go, even full volume isn’t enough. But things are different with these earphones. The sound output is quite decent with these earphones.

Now don’t expect that the earphones would provide flagship audio experience but I really liked the sound quality. The loudness is decent and I can work with less than 50% volume in a quiet environment. And I don’t even need to crank the volume to full in a noisy environment. So that’s what the loudness of the earphones is.

Now Boat is advertising these earphones as Super Deep Bass and that’s definitely a marketing strategy. Though the bass isn’t extraordinary, it isn’t bad and for the price. Mi Earphones Basic and Samsung EHS-64 at the same price offer very similar sound quality.

Audio Latency is a big factor for gamers. I don’t play battle royale games so I can’t say much about gaming. But I played Smash Hit and I didn’t feel any big delay in the audio. And I even plugged in these earphones with a synthesizer to test latency and I didn’t feel any delay here too. Now pro gamers won’t prefer an earphone this cheap but if you do casual gaming in a while, you won’t have any issue with the sound quality.

So calling is the best way for testing the quality of the microphone. Basically, the person at the other end had no such problems in hearing my voice. I tested the microphone even more and saw that there is very little cracking in the audio but not any major issue. And I had no issues with the loudness of the microphone’s recording.

BUTTON CONTROLS

So the earphones have a single button, unlike the Samsung EHS64 that come with three-button control. So the controls are pretty simple. At any instance (except calling), you can long-press the button to trigger your voice assistant. During media playback, you can simply press the button for Play/Pause. A double-tap would play the next song. And in some music players, I even noticed that a triple-tap plays the previous song.

When you get an incoming call, you can simply press the button to receive the call. And for rejecting the call, you need to long-press the button. Once the call gets connected, you can press the button for Mute/Unmute. And for ending the call, we have to long-press the button. So the button controls work well but there are no volume keys.

CONCLUSION & ALTERNATIVES

So I can call these earphones are one of the best under ₹400. In this price, we have Mi Earphones Basic that is also really nice. While the sound quality is very similar, Mi Earphones feel much more premium. But one thing to note is that Boat Baseheads have 1 Year Warranty while Mi Earphones have only 6 Month Warranty. Also, I like the Hawk-Inspired Design of the Boat Baseheads more than the Basic looks in Mi Earphones Basic.

The Samsung EHS-64 is also a solid pick in this price. While it looks plain, the sound quality of that is also excellent. It also has 3-button controls. And you can buy it in the Prime Day Sale, the price is slashed to ₹299. And it is the only earphones in this price that aren’t Made in China. These are made in Vietnam.
